Hi Lidia, Dawn, and JulyBeth:
Apologies in advance for the short timeline here (deadline is next week)
but we are hoping to get some graduate students involved with this exciting
opportunity. So please circulate this as widely as possible. The full text
of the opportunity is below and in the attached PDF:
The CORE Incubator Team (Dr. Susan Hackwood (UCR), Dr. KL Akerlof (George
Mason Univ.), Dr. Richard L. Edwards (UCR), Dr. Michalis Faloutsos (UCR),
and Dr. Annika Speer (UCR)) is excited to announce a new Professional
Development Opportunity for graduate students and post-docs. Funded by US
Department of Education Grant P116J250958, CORE (Civic Openness, Reasoning,
and Engagement) advances the Department of Education’s priorities for
strengthening civil discourse, evidence-based reasoning, and institutional
capacity for constructive engagement with complex public issues.
As part of this grant, the CORE Incubator
<https://sciencetopolicy.ucr.edu/core>, in partnership with the Meridian
International Center, invites applications from faculty, postdoctoral
researchers, and graduate students who are policy novices to join the
Summer 2026 cohort of the Diplomatic Skills Training for Emerging Leaders.
This is a high-impact, outcomes-driven opportunity for civic engagement,
leadership training, and cross-sector institutional problem-solving.
The training will be virtual in July and early August (via Zoom), and will
conclude with two days of immersive sessions in Washington, D.C. on August
17-18, 2026.
Graduate Students and Post-Doctoral applicants who are admitted to CORE's
2026 cohort will receive round-trip air travel from California to
Washington, D.C., shared hotel accommodations (3 nights), scheduled working
meals, ground transportation, and copies of the text *Diplomatic Tradecraft*
.
We would be most grateful if you could circulate this message to your
graduate students and post-docs. Applications of interest
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfxRhBjNWzNoIbYXIS_RVZXQsnYoNNO99b_pamAXA4ig7CuoQ/viewform?usp=header>
