<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small">Hi Kat</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small">Hard to make specific suggestions for this outline (more a table of content doc). Based on my experience with teaching data analysis oriented classes and tutorials requiring remote systems (HPC or cloud), the biggest challenge for beginners is often to learn and embrace how to work in an ssh terminal efficiently. This includes fluency with a non-graphical IDE (e.g. neovim or emacs) and tmux/screen for ssh session management. Perhaps adding these two to the table of content of your colleague could be something to consider. Doing remote work via a web solution (e.g. Jupyter or similar) is also something to consider, but to me it is not a complete substitute for learning basic skills working in an ssh terminal.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small">If it helps, here is a super basic <a href="https://girke.bioinformatics.ucr.edu/GEN242/tutorials/linux/linux/" target="_blank">intro tutorial</a> for working on HPC systems that I use for my genome data science classes. More on this can be found in the tutorial and manual sections of the <a href="https://hpcc.ucr.edu/" target="_blank">HPCC website</a>. I guess there are tons of similar tutorials all over the internet and everyone has their own preferences. <br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:small">Thomas</div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Tue, May 30, 2023 at 10:57 AM Katherine E Koziar <<a href="mailto:katherine.koziar@ucr.edu" target="_blank">katherine.koziar@ucr.edu</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div>
