*SAM.Gov Registration Expiration*



Please be advised that UCR’s SAM.gov registration is set to expire
tomorrow, August 15, 2026. This annual registration is mandatory to
maintain our eligibility for federal awards.


In past years, UCR typically secured renewal approval in about three days.
Anticipating stricter federal regulations, we proactively initiated the
renewal process 54 days ago on June 22, 2026. Despite our diligent
follow-ups, final federal approval remains pending. The renewal application
is currently in its final stage of review with the Defense Logistics Agency
and could be approved at any moment.

Because a registration lapse is uncharted territory for UCR, we do not yet
know the full extent of the financial or administrative repercussions. If
you receive any external communications regarding UCR’s SAM.gov status,
please forward them immediately to REDalert at ucr.edu or send an email to
REDalert at ucr.edu should you need further information from SPA management.

We understand that this news is concerning. Please be assured that we have
engaged all relevant university, state, and federal contacts who may assist
in expediting the review. We remain hopeful that the renewal will be
finalized soon.




*Step-by-Step Guidance Available for Linking* *an* *ORCID ID to an NIH eRA
Commons Profile*



NIH requires all senior/key personnel listed on applications to obtain an Open
Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID iD)  <https://orcid.org/>and
link it to their eRA Commons Personal Profile.

To assist applicants, NIH has a step-by-step guide

linking an ORCID iD to an eRA Commons account. Note that:

   - An ORCID iD can be linked to only one eRA Commons account.
   - Contact the eRA Service Desk <https://www.era.nih.gov/need-help> if
   you encounter an error when attempting to link your ORCID iD or need to
   remove an existing ORCID iD from a Commons profile.

*NIH Proposal Tip: Consider Using the *

*PHS Assignment Request Form in Applications *



For many NIH funding opportunities, applicants have the option of including
a PHS Assignment Request Form

in
their application to request assignment to a specific NIH Institute or
Center (IC) and/or study section. It’s optional, but NIH encourages
applications to fill it out

Applicants may suggest:

   - NIH Institute/Center/Office (ICO) assignments
   - Particular study sections
   - Names of people who may have a conflict with reviewing the application
   - Areas of expertise needed for the review



The information provided is not included in the assembled application and
is only shared with appropriate NIH review staff, not with reviewers or
others at NIH.



The information provided on the PHS assignment request form is quite
helpful for NIH review staff, who refer to it when considering the best
course of action for your application’s timely review. Our staff will
carefully consider your suggestions, which are also balanced with many
other factors when making appropriate ICO and review group assignments.
