Collaborate ~ Communicate ~ Connect

Please join Research Administrators INC on Wednesday, March 29th and Wednesday April 26th for the (taped) webinar, “Agency Updates with NIH and NSF.”

Note: Due to the lengthiness of the ‘live’ webinar (which NCURA is hosting next month), SPA has purchased the MP4 to enable the later showing of the webinar in two separate sessions (i.e., one session per agency).

Please register separately for each specific agency update you plan to attend, as each session will be different.

The MP4 will be posted on the RA INC webpage for those who are unable to join us.

Roman Science Inspired by Emerging JWST Results
First Announcement – Abstract Submission Open

We are excited to announce the “Roman Science Inspired by Emerging JWST Results<http://www.stsci.edu/contents/events/stsci/2023/june/roman-science-inspired-by-emerging-jwst-results>” conference to be held 20-23 June 2023 at the Space Telescope Science Institute<https://www.stsci.edu/> in Baltimore, MD, USA.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope<https://roman.gsfc.nasa.gov/> will provide a simultaneous field of view 100 times larger than that of JWST and 200 times larger than that of HST+WFC3/IR, a sensitivity and resolution similar to that of HST, and incredible survey speeds. The first year of science from JWST is already providing transformative scientific results on a wide range of topics that are relevant for Roman and that are synergistic with Roman’s survey capabilities. Together, Roman and JWST will operate in tandem not only with Hubble, but also with Rubin, Euclid, and other ground-based and space-based facilities of the 2020s.

This conference will focus on how emerging results from JWST are reshaping the scientific landscape and how this impacts the planning for Roman surveys. In concordance with the broad range of astrophysics addressed by both missions, we welcome contributions on all scientific topics connected to this theme, from solar system objects and exoplanets, to nearby galaxies, to the search for the first stars and galaxies, and everything in between.

 The meeting is hybrid: we will welcome participants in person in the Muller Auditorium in Baltimore, are planning an active virtual participation option, and will be live-streaming presentations. A Science Writer’s Workshop will occur concurrent to the science program as well as a coordinated Public Lecture (also live streamed).

Important Dates:

  *   Feb 17, 2023 – Abstract submission<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Abstract_Submission_ROMAN_Conference_2023> opens
  *   Mar 17, 2023 – Registration opens
  * Mar 17, 2023 – Abstract submission deadline for invited and contributed talks
  * Apr 21, 2023 – Abstract submission deadline for electronic posters
  *   May 22, 2023 – Registration for in-person attendance closes
  *   Jun 9, 2023 – Virtual registration closes
  *   Jun 20-23, 2023 – Conference

The conference webpage<https://www.stsci.edu/contents/events/stsci/2023/june/roman-science-inspired-by-emerging-jwst-results> contains additional details and will be updated as more information becomes available.
A second announcement will come in March with more details, a list of invited speakers, and information for registration.

With Roman launching in less than four years, the SOC is thrilled to host our science community in Baltimore & Online in June!
