DCC Announces $20 million in Grants
for Cannabis-Related Research
Available to all California universities, DCC prioritizes a list of topics
Today, Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) announced it is soliciting proposals for research projects that advance public understanding of cannabis and its legalization. DCC will fund up to $20 million in cannabis-related academic research by California public universities and is prioritizing topics that address gaps in scientific knowledge and guide future policy decisions.
For the first time, DCC has identified specific research topics that will be prioritized for grant funding, which would advance understanding of cannabis, address existing research gaps, and inform policymakers. Research topics include:

  * Cannabis potency and health impacts
  * The health of California’s cannabis industry
  *   Legacy cannabis genetics
  *   Monopolies and unfair competition
  *   Medicinal use of cannabis
This document<https://cannabis.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/10/research-grant_2022_priority_research_topics.pdf> goes into detail about what proposals should address in terms of the topics noted above. And this RFP document<https://cannabis.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/10/research-grant_2022_rfp.pdf> has detailed information about the grant and application instructions.

Grant proposals will be accepted from November 1, 2022 until Nov. 30, 2022. Awarded research projects will be announced in early February 2023. Researchers will be required to make research findings available to the public, at no cost, in order to promote more rapid enhancement of scientific understanding of topics researched.
Questions on the grant application process or guidelines may be submitted to DCC by October 14, 2022 to grants at cannabis.ca.gov<mailto:grants at cannabis.ca.gov>, with answers posted publicly on October 31.

2022 Wildfire Resiliency and Prevention Grant Round

The 2022 Wildfire Resiliency and Prevention Grant Round<http://click.e.calparks.org/?qs=893f633f0d4a3ad0552e71d2f0d0d39911d99cd386e8a5a5e87de45fd31b09b76178240bb5976e830b4b3d5f431d8b14a2e4bd3ebedfa532> will support activities in state parks that help create a wildfire resilient state park system and invest in model programs which focus on wildfire resilience, risk reduction, mitigation, or preparedness.  Proposed projects should fall under one of these three model approaches:

  * Use of control burning and debris removal to foster a healthy ecosystem and reduce catastrophic wildfires.
  * Restoring native vegetation to landscapes that are overrun with highly flammable and invasive species. This will increase the native biodiversity that has evolved with fire and can better protect and recover from wildfires.
  * Educating and activating local communities and all Californians on how they can help to build greater resiliency against wildfires.

Applicants can apply for grants up to $10,000.

We look forward to receiving your application!

California State Parks Foundation
