Compliance Alert: New Advanced Computing, Semiconductor and Supercomputer Controls

Dear Colleagues,

Please see the compliance alert<https://www.ucop.edu/ethics-compliance-audit-services/_files/compliance/education/compliance-alerts/compliance-alert-29.pdf> addressing new Advanced Computing, Semiconductor and Supercomputer federal export controls.

Under revisions to federal export control laws a license may be required for activities involving advanced computing chips, semiconductors, integrated circuits or supercomputers.

Contact your Export Control office for review of any:

·                 Research, services (e.g. design, testing, analysis) and collaboration related to computing chips, semiconductors, integrated circuits, components (e.g. wafers, etc.) or technology (e.g. designs)

·                 Research and services related to supercomputers and supercomputer technology

CyberTraining and SCIPE Solicitation Webinar

CyberTraining supports efforts to improve the adoption of cyberinfrastructure resources by the research community and integrate core literacy, skills in advanced cyberinfrastructure, and computational and data-driven methods into undergraduate and graduate education.
SCIPE supports projects that deepen the integration of cyberinfrastructure professionals’ services into research, while fostering education, training, and recognition that address CI workforce development needs.
Both solicitations are led by NSF's Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) in the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) and have participation from other NSF Directorates.

Congress Inches Toward Year-End Government Funding Deal (The Hill)



Congressional negotiators are making a dash to scrounge together a bipartisan deal on how to fund the federal government for fiscal 2023, with just weeks on the clock until a looming shutdown deadline…  Lawmakers have until Dec. 16, when current funding is set to lapse, to pass legislation to keep the government running or risk shutdown. IMPORTANT:  Research and Economic Development will be closed during the Winter Break (December 23, 2022 through January 2, 2023); the office will re-open on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Principal investigators and department administrators should be mindful of this campus closure when planning the submission of proposals with deadlines that fall between that time period as well as deadlines occurring in early January 2023.
