Description:
Balancing the important role international collaboration plays in the development of fundamental research that yields significant economic, national security, and national health benefits to the United States with the risk of improper foreign government influence can be difficult to navigate in today's increasingly complex and interconnected global environment. Join Rebecca Spyke Keiser, Chief of Research Security Strategy and Policy, and Michael Lauer, Deputy Director for Extramural Research, as they discuss the need for fundamental research security at U.S. academic and research institutions and the research security protections and requirements of the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health, respectively.

Rebecca Spyke Keiser, is the Chief of Research Security Strategy and Policy at the National Science Foundation. In this role, she advises the NSF director on all aspects of research security strategy. She also leads NSF's efforts to develop and implement strategies to improve research security and the agency's coordination with other federal agencies and the White House.

Michael Lauer, M.D., is the Deputy Director for Extramural Research at the National Institutes of Health, where he serves as the principal scientific leader and advisor to the Director of the NIH on all matters relating to the substance, quality and
effectiveness of the NIH extramural research program and administration.

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF UNIVERSITY RESEARCH ADMINISTRATORS (NCURA) - YOUTUBE TUESDAY

Each week, NCURA emails its membership of research administration professionals with a link to a short video/snip-it (approx. 3 - 5 minutes in length) as a means of communicating on various research administration topics.
On 9/28/2021, NCURA showcased the following encore presentation of the snip-it entitled, "The Chicken Sandwich and F&A: How to Explain F&A to Your Faculty" as presented by Chea Smith, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Enjoy!

Informative Noontime Collaboration

Collaborate ~ Communicate ~ Connect

Please join Research Administrators INC on Monday, November 15th at Noon to view the webinar entitled, "You're Driving Me Crazy! Investigating and Resolving Issues that Irk our Pre- and Post-Award Counterparts" (which was presented at the
NCURA Annual Meeting last month).

Description
As a Pre-Award administrator, your actions at the proposal stage may unintentionally set your co-workers up for burdensome Post-Award management. Likewise, Post-Award administrators may unintentionally undermine the efforts of their Pre-Award colleagues. And, if you're a lifecycle grant manager, your efforts at the Pre-Award stage definitely impact your Post-Award self! So how do you avoid driving yourself and your colleagues crazy? This session will explore common pitfalls in the areas of cost sharing, rebudgeting, prior approval requests, contract negotiation, reporting, and other areas of research administration that affect both Pre- and Post-Award offices. With this information in hand, this webinar will offer recommendations for how to
avoid and/or resolve these issues and improve efficiencies for all parties.

Learning Objectives

  * Participants will be able to identify areas and situations where action in the Pre-Award or Post-Award stage has a ripple effect for the other side.
  * Participants will explore alternative actions and processes to improve efficiencies in your work.
  * Participants will learn how to promote better relationships and increase happiness among your teams.

Presenters
Jaclyn Lucas, Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope
Melissa Giglio, Harvard Medical School

To receive the ZOOM link to both sessions, please register here<https://redit.ucr.edu/OrApps/Org/OrgEvents/Default.aspx?g=inc> (A separate ZOOM link will be sent out on the morning of each session.)
