*Context*
In 2024, several faculty members at UC Riverside have joined forces to
establish a cross-disciplinary interest group focused on information
weaponization, with the goal of modeling and improving online dialogue. Our
members come from Computer Science, Political Science, Sociology,
Psychology, History, and other fields.
We called this initiative LOGOS, from the Greek noun "logos" (derived from
the verb "legein," "to say" something meaningful). In its early stages,
LOGOS (logos.cs.ucr.edu) has hosted recurring internal meetings and reading
groups, primarily aimed at fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations.
*The Event*
We are organizing an "open-day" event on February 27 to bring together
researchers based in Southern California who work in or are interested in
this area. A tentative agenda is taking shape at
https://logos.cs.ucr.edu/open-day.html
We have a few confirmed contributed talks and a keynote by Dr. Jeremy
Epstein (www.cc.gatech.edu/people/jeremy-epstein), former Assistant
Director for Technologies at the White House and lead program officer of
NSF's Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) program.
*Logistics*
Attendance is free thanks to the support of a UCR CoR grant and the RAISE
<https://raise.ucr.edu> institute. If you are planning to attend our event,
please let me know. Registration will close approximately two weeks before
the event.
