Dear colleagues,
I would like to invite you to join a community of educators across UCR that
meets monthly to discuss issues relevant to teaching and learning. Our
shared goals are to:
- Explore and apply current and relevant literature to enhance teaching
methodologies.
- Foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration within STEM fields.
- Increase the frequency and quality of research article submissions.
We meet monthly in the XCITE Sandbox (Rivera Library Rm. 133). Although our
focus is STEM, we often talk about issues relevant to anyone involved in
undergraduate instruction or education research.
Our next meeting, "Disability frameworks & why they matter for STEM
learning", will be held *Wednesday, February 11th from 12-1PM. * Most of
you are probably aware of the UC system-wide requirements to ensure
accessibility and the mandated new standards for digital content. I think
this is a good time and opportunity to have a discussion about how
disability shapes learning, reasoning, participation, and assessment in
STEM—and what the research says about designing instruction that works
better for everyone. Attached are a few papers to help guide our discussion.
This session is designed as a space for collective sense-making and
intellectual engagement—not a training on policies or accommodations. All
are welcome, regardless of prior familiarity with disability studies.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and I hope you will
consider joining us for what I expect will be a thoughtful conversation.
Best,
--
