During the most recent round of Academic Student Employee contract
negotiation in 2010, which resulted in a three-year collective bargaining
agreement (December 2010 through September 2013), the provision regarding
the "Childcare Reimbursement Program" was extended with enhanced
benefits/compensation for eligible ASEs. Below is the actual language in
the current ASE contract related to the Childcare Reimbursement Program.

A. PARTICIPATION IN CAMPUS CHILDCARE PROGRAMS

ASEs shall be eligible to participate in a campus' childcare program, if
any, including subsidies and other financial assistance, in accordance with
the provisions of each location's childcare program. Each location shall
post information regarding their childcare program on the web.

B. SYSTEM-WIDE CHILDCARE REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM

1. Academic Year

a. Upon ratification of the contract, each eligible ASE shall receive
up to $600 per quarter or $900 per semester for expenses incurred during the
ASE's appointment period in the regular academic year. The program will
define reimbursable expenses and related procedures.

b. An eligible ASE is a registered student with at least a 25% ASE
appointment who has (a) qualified dependent(s). For the purposes of this
program, qualified dependents shall include non-school age children in the
custody of the ASE.

2. Summer Session

a. Starting the 2011 Summer Session, each eligible ASE shall receive up
to a total of $600 for the Summer Session(s) for expenses during the ASE's
summer appointment(s). This program will define reimbursable expenses and
related procedures.

b. An eligible ASE is a registered student during the academic year
terms preceding and succeeding the Summer Session for which the
reimbursement is requested, has at least a 25% ASE appointment for the term
of the appointment(s), and has (a) qualified dependent(s). For the purpose
of this program, qualified dependents shall include non-school age children
in the custody of the ASE.

Notable enhancements to the ASE Childcare Reimbursement Program include the
following:

* Expanded program eligibility for ASEs appointed for at least 25% in
Summer Sessions

* Changes in maximum reimbursement limit from $300 to $600 per
quarter and during Summer Session(s)

program, for reviewing childcare reimbursement requests submitted by ASEs,
and for providing childcare reimbursement payments to eligible ASEs with
qualifying dependents. Please forward this email to staff and faculty in
your unit who have responsibility for administering matters related to ASE
appointments.
