TO:       MSO, Campus Departments Employing Academic Student Employees
(ASEs)

 

RE:       Union Membership Election Form for CASE/UAW Represented Employees

 

In accordance with Article 28, Section C, of the Agreement between the
University of California and UAW Local Union 2865, the attached union
membership election form is being provided to each campus department for
distribution to new ASEs represented by the UAW.  Please note that the Fair
Share Fee amount covering the period August 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011 is now
.85%.  Please print and hand out to the new ASEs for the academic year of
2010-2011.  ASE titles used on this campus include:  Associate_In____,
Reader, Remedial Tutor, Teaching Assistant, Teaching Fellow, and Tutor.

 

Under this bargaining agreement, the University is required to provide this
membership form to all new ASEs at the same time as the ASE is provided the
new employee payroll information (i.e., W-2 and I-9 forms).  If the ASE has
already completed new employee information forms, this union membership
election form should be presented to the ASE at the same time the ASE is
hired into the bargaining unit, usually at the time of appointment.  Please
ask new academic student employees to return the election form to the
department at their earliest convenience.  As the bargaining agreement calls
for all forms to be returned to UAW within ten (10) business days of the
receipt of the completed forms, it is imperative that the department
forwards the completed forms immediately to the Labor Relations Office,
attention:  Mariela Roberts, so that this office may comply with the
contractual requirement in a timely manner.
