Dear PPS Users

The e-mail below was recently issued by Bobbi McCracken, Associate Vice Chancellor - Financial Services for the Suspension of University Cell Phone Imputed Income and Cash Allowances.  Effective October 2009 earnings paid October 30, 2009, please remove all appointments and/or distributions associated with DOS codes "CEL" and "CE2" from the Payroll/Personnel System (PPS).

Dear Campus Community,

Please see the attached copy of Executive Vice President Peter Taylor's letter to the Chancellors announcing the suspension of the University's cell phone policy through January 31, 2010.  Based on the approval UC received from the IRS, the University's former policy published in Business and Finance Bulletin G-46 will be in effect during this time.

This change is effective with October 2009 earnings.  Therefore, the cell phone imputed income and cash allowance DOS codes established in the payroll system for employees with University-provided cell phone equipment should be modified to list 9/30/09 as the end date.  Payroll will be issuing more detailed guidance through PPS News.

Although the suspension is temporary, the IRS has agreed to work with UC in the event the cell phone legislation is not passed by Congress this fall.
