<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:9.0pt;line-height:normal"><span style="mso-ligatures:standardcontextual">The testing will require two, short interruptions of the emergency electrical power. Only the emergency electrical circuit is interrupted, which
includes emergency lighting, exit signs, and red power outlets. Regular building power will continue. A less than 1-second outage will occur as the system switches from the emergency electrical power source to the emergency generator. After approximately 30
minutes of testing, a less than 1-second outage will occur as the system switches back to the emergency electrical power source.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:9.0pt;line-height:normal"><span style="mso-ligatures:standardcontextual">Regular power outlets in the labs and offices, and normal lighting will not be affected. It is recommended that any equipment using emergency
power be plugged into a red outlet, such as -80 freezers, spectrometers, and air compressors. All at-risk equipment should be plugged into surge protectors. If the equipment can be powered off during the monthly test, it is recommended to power it down. If
the equipment cannot be powered down, it is recommended to plug it into a UPS. For more information, visit our website at

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-ligatures:standardcontextual">PURPOSE</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-ligatures:standardcontextual">
</span><span style="mso-ligatures:standardcontextual">NFPA 110, Title 19, CEC, Compliance Testing — California state legislation requires exercising emergency systems monthly, including testing transfer switches and running generators for a minimum of 30 minutes.
CCR Title 19 is a state code that applies to all state buildings, including all UC buildings. Office of the President General Council directed all campuses to fully comply with state fire codes. This EPS test, or Emergency Power Supply test, will simulate
a power outage by using the test switches on the ATS. Maintenance and testing is critical for the continued reliability of the building’s emergency system for fire and life safety.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
