Additionally, a notice about the upcoming campus-wide GSA election. </div><div><br></div><div>Below is his message:</div><div><br></div><div>“I hope the quarter is going well for all of you. I have two updates to share with you all that are time sensitive for this week. </div><div><br></div><div><b>GSA Elections</b> </div><div>The first is our university wide GSA elections which opened yesterday and will remain open <span dir="ltr">until Sunday</span>. I am not sure if we have hit the first 50 voters yet, but if you are one of the first 50 you will receive a $5 dining gift card. To learn more about the candidates please visit the GSA website: <a href="https://gsa.ucr.edu/elections/">https://gsa.ucr.edu/elections/</a>. To cast your ballot please use the following qualtrics form: <a href="https://ucriverside.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_etZ56JlAve1me3k">https://ucriverside.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_etZ56JlAve1me3k</a>. </div><div><br></div><div><b>UAW Strike Authorization Vote</b> </div><div>As many of you are aware, UAW is currently holding a strike authorization vote over the next couple of days. Some of you sent me questions after the update I sent out after May's GSA meeting. I forwarded those questions and concerns along to UAW leadership and staff, and they updated their FAQ to reflect many of them. To view the FAQ please use the following link: <a href="https://www.uaw4811.org/sav-faq">https://www.uaw4811.org/sav-faq</a>. Additionally, I am passing along the official statement sent by union leadership regarding the strike vote: <br></div><div><br></div><div>"<i>In response to the demand for divestment from the genocide in Gaza, UC administration called the cops at many campuses, assaulting and arresting our coworkers. This is the violation of the right to free speech and safe working environment—rights that are stated in our contract. Our statewide union filed Unfair Labor Practice charges against UC on these issues, making the first step to carry out a <b>legally sanctioned</b> strike and effectively pressure UC. </i></div><i><br>For now, UC’s course of action depends on this SAV. A resounding YES vote <u>can increase the strike threat and force UC to negotiate before all campuses have to stand up to strike</u>; voting NO allows UC to put us in a disadvantageous position, forcing all campuses to continue to fight without legal protection.</i>" </div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br></div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Additionally, while they have not laid out an entire strategy, I was able to get an official statement about their stand up strike strategy: </div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br></div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">"<i>After the strike is authorized, our statewide union will call one campus after another to go on strike. The call to strike will start at UCLA, where a lot of arrests happened; if necessary, it will extend to other campuses, including UC Riverside where the agreement was reached without the use of police force. A supermajority YES is necessary to move UC to stop the arrests and agree to negotiate before all campuses are forced to go on strike.</i>" </div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br></div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">They have hinted that UCR would likely be one of the last UCs to strike, but those of us represented by UAW could be called upon to strike once an authorization is ratified. </div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><br></div><div style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">The authorization vote started yesterday and will close <span dir="ltr">on May 15th.</span> Given the tight time frame, if you are planning to vote I would encourage you to do so as soon as possible. However, please note that I am leaving for a conference today, and I will not be returning <span dir="ltr">until Friday</span>. If you send any questions by tonight (Tuesday the 14th) I will be able to get you answer, but if you send questions tomorrow I will likely not be able to answer them before the authorization vote closes.”</div><div><br></div><div>Best,</div><div>Greg and Tommy</div></div><div dir="ltr"></div><div dir="ltr"></div></body></html>
