--></style></head><body lang="EN-US" link="#467886" vlink="#96607D" style="word-wrap:break-word"><div class="WordSection1"><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Dear Colleagues,</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">The Undergraduate Committee has decided to award this year’s Jenkin Outstanding Paper Award to Michelle Wang for a paper on civil war in Myanmar. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">We also decided to award “honorable mentions” to Avanti Abhyankar and Lorelei Van Daele for their submitted essays.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Michelle will receive a $500 award via financial aid.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Thanks to the other committee members: Yasemin, Ron, Josh, Laura and Kelechi. Thanks also to Bryan, Donna, Kristy, Christina and Victoria for help soliciting applicants and administering the award. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">And thanks to all of you for your help in identifying candidates for this and other department awards. We will continue to improve our direct outreach to students about these awards, but self-nomination by students can only be part of the plan to recruit the best possible applicant pools for department awards.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">We will be making more awards in the Spring, so please be on the lookout for more requests for your advice.
