Dear Professor Brookes,

We hope this email finds you well – happy new year. Following up on
our message from the end of last year, we write to you in your
capacity as Director of Graduate Studies to request that you
re-disseminate to students in your doctoral program, and more
generally through your networks, a call for proposals for the 2024
Emerging Methodologists Workshop (EMW).

The EMW aims to foster a new generation of methodologists in the
qualitative and multi-method research community. Advanced graduate
students, post-docs, and junior faculty based at US institutions
from under-represented groups who are developing a paper that
focuses on methods for generating and/or analyzing qualitative data,
or for multi-method research, are encouraged to submit a proposal to
present their work at the EMW. Empirical papers do not qualify for
presentation at the workshop.

The EMW takes place annually on the day before the start of the
American Political Science Association (APSA) meeting. Workshops run
as invitation-only pre-conference short courses sponsored by the
Qualitative and Multi-Method Research (QMMR) section of APSA. This
year the EMW will take place on Wednesday, September 4, in
Philadelphia, PA. The workshop is supported by generous funding from
the National Science Foundation.

The workshop covers round-trip airfare, two nights at a conference
hotel, meals and refreshments during the workshop, and the $25
workshop fee for each presenter. In addition, each presenter is
paired with a mentor who helps them to develop their methodological
scholarship in advance of the workshop, and continues to work with
them after the workshop to prepare their research for submission to
a peer-reviewed journal.

You can find more information on the EMW’s website: http://sigla.georgetown.domains/emworkshop/

Please find attached to this email two documents that we ask
that you distribute broadly:

A document with more information about the EMW and
instructions for submitting proposals,
which are due on February 1

A flier offering more information on the webinar to be
held next Monday, January 22 at 1pm ET for those
interested in learning more about the EMW

Broad outreach is a vital part of our efforts to recruit a diverse
pool of presenters. We appreciate your assistance in circulating the
call for proposals and webinar flier to any individuals or groups
who might be interested. Please email emw.qmer@gmail.com with any
questions.

Thank you in advance for your support of this initiative.

Best wishes,
Diana Kapiszewski and Hillel David Soifer
