Hi everyone,

Margaret Peters, professor of Political Science at UCLA, will be presenting her work on the speakers series on Monday, November 27th.

We strongly encourage everyone to attend the talk in person.

As you know, we often offer the opportunity for students to meet with the speaker during lunch, but Margaret's itinerary will be different than usual for reasons outside our control. Instead of lunch, Margaret will meet with graduate students from 4-5 pm at the Chair's Office and then at the Barn for a happy hour from 5-6 pm. The latter event is open to all, but we will have a smaller meeting from 4-5 pm to compensate for the lunch event that we won't have. We are limiting the attendance to five graduate students in the 4-5pm meeting to avoid overcrowding it and to ensure that those who attend have a chance to interact with the speaker properly. This will be on a first-come-first-serve basis, just like in case of lunch with the speaker, so please email us if you want to join the 4-5pm meeting with Margaret.

There is no need to e-mail me if you want to meet her only in the happy our from 5-6pm. You can just show up at the Barn

You are welcome to attend either or both, but the again the 4-5pm meeting will be for the smaller group of students who contacted us first.

This is a fantastic opportunity for networking. Networking and talking to scholars from other departments is reason enough to attend, but please add a note to let us know if you also have particular interests to meet because the speaker works on topics closely related to your research interests. We are rotating the small meeting attendees so that everybody has the opportunity to attend one of these events during the academic year, but we encourage you to sign up even if you have attended previous ones.

Best regards,
