[Poscgrad] POSC GSA: UAW Update

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying your summers. I know I mentioned in my June
Newsletters that I am forgoing newsletters for the summer, but I was asked
to relay the information below to you all by UAW. Given that the union
representing graduate students workers is in the middle of negotiations I
figured it prudent to pass the information below along. If you have any
questions please let me know, and I can connect you with the appropriate
union representative/staff.

Here is a bargaining update from Tuesday, 7/8:

   -

   This was the first negotiation with management in ASEs’ campaign for a
   new union contract. Over 100 UAW 4811 members attended!
   -

   We proposed new protections for all workers, including:
   -

      A guarantee that UC won’t share resources with ICE
      -

      More support and rights for workers facing visa/travel restrictions
      -

      Stronger anti-discrimination language protecting our right to free
      speech
      -

   Management signaled they want to restrict ASEs’ access to supplies we
   need to research and teach, keep ASEs from attending grievance meetings,
   and make many rights unenforceable.
