Subject: IQMR New Voices Initiative - request to distribute call for applications

Dear Colleague,

We hope this email finds you well – happy new year. We write to you, in your capacity as chair, dean, or head of a department or school in the social sciences, to introduce an initiative associated with Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research<https://www.maxwell.syr.edu/research/center-for-qualitative-and-multi-method-inquiry/institute-for-qualitative-multi-method-research> (IQMR) and to request your assistance with disseminating information about it to affiliates of your unit and your broader networks.

IQMR, as you may know, is a two-week training program held annually at Syracuse University. Led each June by approximately 30 methodologists from U.S. and international institutions, IQMR promotes the teaching and application of a diverse set of advanced qualitative research methods and their combination with complementary analytic techniques in the social sciences. Over the last 20 years, more than 3,000 graduate students and junior faculty have attended the Institute. IQMR is supported, in part, by generous funding from the National Science Foundation.

IQMR’s “New Voices Initiative” aims to identify, encourage, and support early career researchers (ECRs) who are interested in teaching at IQMR. Each year, we select through a competitive process two “New Voices Teaching Fellows” who then join one of the Institute’s teaching teams the following summer. Fellows receive an honorarium, and their round trip economy class domestic air travel, lodging in Syracuse, and a per diem for the duration of their stay are covered by the Institute. Seasoned instructors guide, mentor, and learn from Fellows, drawing on their fresh insights and perspectives about the methods being taught. The Initiative’s broader goals are to grow the number and diversity of faculty who teach qualitative and multi-method research in the social sciences.

Please find at this link<https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/e/2PACX-1vTRqcsNaB9vusAYLt-6t5uMEuzR-DA0P3WIIsGwwnYI8XerWTJxFgbWKAncH-ehOA/pub> a more detailed call for applications from ECRs who are interested in teaching at IQMR 2025. The application deadline is Friday, January 31. Could you please distribute the call to affiliates of your unit, and your broader networks?

We very much appreciate your support, and are happy to answer any questions you might have about this Initiative.

With our best wishes,

Diana Kapiszewski and Sebastian Karcher
