Dear POSC Graduate Students,

I am writing to inform you of the call for applications and upcoming
deadline (*internal deadline: Tuesday, January 6*) for the following
*three* Graduate
Division fellowships:

   -

*Dissertation Completion Fellowship Award (DCFA) – Round 2*
   -

   *Dissertation Year Fellowship Award (DYFA)*
   -

   *UC–HSI DDI President’s Pre-Professoriate Fellowship (UC-HSI DDI PPPF)*

These opportunities are available to PhD students who have *advanced to
candidacy*. *Attached* to this email, you will find a PDF with full
eligibility details and application guidelines.

*NOTES:*

Departments are no longer allocated guaranteed fellowships; however, POSC
is allowed to nominate up to three students for the DCFA for this round. G
rad Div expects to support approx. 50% of nominations campuswide. In other
words, a department nomination is a necessary but insufficient condition
for winning a DCFA.

The *Dissertation Completion Fellowship Award *(*DCFA*) is for students who
will definitely graduate by Spring or Summer 2026. If a POSC student
receives a DCFA award and does not graduate on time, Graduate Division
reserves the right to impose collective punishment on the entire department
by reducing our nomination rights the following year. So please only apply
for the DCFA if you know you will graduate for sure.

The *Dissertation Year Fellowship Award (DYFA) *is highly competitive. Only
three students campuswide win this award. POSC is allowed to nominate one
student for the DYFA.

The attached PDF has more information on the specific eligibility criteria
for the *UC–HSI DDI PPPF* (as well as the DCFA and DYFA).

Ask your dissertation chairs for their *letter* *of* *recommendations*
*ASAP* so that they have ample time to prepare your letters before winter
quarter begins. Remember that faculty response time tends to slow down over
winter break.

Please *ALSO* email a pdf of your application to mbrookes at ucr.edu with
"DCFA [or DYFA or UC-HSI DDI PPPF] application" in the subject line. Last
year we had issues with Slate, and I would rather that no one's application
get lost in the system during the nomination process in case there are any
technical difficulties.

Your applications are due *no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6,
2026. *Please note that this date is an internal POSC deadline and
therefore *EARLIER* than the one listed in the attached PDF. After our
internal (departmental) review of applications, we will send our official
nominations to Graduate Division. Nominated applications will then be
reviewed by faculty on the Graduate Council.

*Please read the attached application guidelines* *thoroughly* before
beginning your application. The Graduate Committee emphasizes generating *a
high-quality proposal*. Attached is advice for writing a strong
proposal. In writing your proposal, we encourage you to prioritize the
advice of the POSC Graduate Committee, as conveyed in the attached
document, while also fulfilling the criteria set out by Grad Division on
the official online form. We strongly encourage students to submit draft
proposals to faculty advisors and incorporate their feedback before
submitting their proposals.

See attached PDF for more information.

Best Regards,
MB (on behalf of the Graduate Committee)
