Hi Everyone,

As some of you know, the campus wide Graduate Student Council had its
meeting earlier this week. There are a couple of updates in that meeting
that I wanted to share with you all.

General GSA Updates:
The Grad-Bash for for fall quarter is coming up in a couple of weeks. It
will be on *Thursday November 21st from 5-7PM at Barn*. They will have
food, and I believe some drink tickets. Please bring your UCR ID in order
to access the event. Additionally, GSA is co-sponsoring a *happy-hour at
The Getaway every first Tuesday of the month from 5-7PM.* Part of the happy
hour will include discounts on both drinks and food. I went this past
Tuesday and was it decently attended given that it was election night.

UAW:
As previously mentioned in other emails, UAW is beginning the process of
preparing for bargaining our next contract which begins early next year.
(For reference our current contract ends around May of 2025.) For the first
time the union is holding a summit to establish the first set of demands
for bargaining. The unions is asking folks to fill out a bargaining survey
<https://uc-uaw.jotform.com/241967579897081> to gage the priorities of
members as they begin drafting their list of demands. If you would like to
fill out the survey please use the link here:
https://uc-uaw.jotform.com/241967579897081. Additionally, I am one of the
two social science graduate students attending the summit as voting
delegates. So, if you want to talk about issues you want brought up for
contract demands please feel free to contact me. Lastly, unrelated to
bargaining, the union has noticed some instances of various forms of wage
theft. I have not seen any of that come from our unit, but if you believe
that you may experiencing instances of wage theft the union is asking that
you fill out the following survey
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeImIRFvj9Y_zPcwZLJEAJHXmsQ46JUXWaq3EUdv9uVYopUaA/viewform>
.

Grad-Success:
No major updates from our graduate success office, but I encourage you all
to take a look at their Padlet link (https://padlet.com/ucrgradsuccess) for
any of their potential programs that you might be interested in.

In closing, thank you to those who made it to the election night reception
I hosted. I know both of my Great Danes appreciated the company. I hope you
all can attend our next department and/or department GSA event. As always,
please feel free to reach out if you need anything.

Respectfully,

--
