Hi All,
Wanted to forward some updates from our GSA Rep. Greg Hutchins from last
night's monthly meeting. Very important, in this set of updates is *information
about voting in our union's current election! *I hope everyone is having a
good week!
*UAW Updates: *
Our union will be holding our elections over the course of the next few
days. UAW 4811 members are encouraged to watch their emails for ballots
that will include our statewide officers. (The ballots should have been
sent to our inboxes this morning. I know I got mine.) The election closes
tomorrow (May 3rd) at 5PM. Our campus officers were voted in by
acclamation, given lack of contestation, and will be taking office over the
course of the next week or so.
For those that are interested, UAW 4811 will be hosting a "Labor for
Palestine: Solidarity Rally for the UCR Encampment for Palestine" event at
the bell tower next Tuesday (May7th) at noon. For more information, and to
RSVP please use the following link:

*GSA Bylaw and Election Updates*
At last night's meeting we passed our tentative budget for the upcoming
year. No real significant changes were made.
We are also having an update on the bylaws which I have tentatively voted
in favor of, but final votes will be next month. If anyone wants to review
the bylaw, they can find them on here: Proposed Bylaw Changes 2024-2025
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VArVOGD5LP6-LyacuW-Ay0sSP1GpX5Rh/edit>.
Most of the changes are clerical in nature, but the one major change is a
modification for our travel grant. I have been working on this for the last
several months. Our colleagues were unable to attend their version of
conferences due to wording on the travel grant bylaws. The proposed changes
are meant to allow greater use of the grant to allow all graduate students
opportunities to share their work in their respective fields. If anyone has
any issues the proposed changes, please feel free to contact me at
gregory.hutchins at email.ucr.edu
Lastly, we have campus wide GSA elections, which of course are seperate
mini GSA elections. The elections will be held from May 13th to May 19th.
The first 50 people who vote will receive $5 in dining credit. To learn
more about GSA campus wide elections and to learn the candidates please go
to the elections website: https://gsa.ucr.edu/elections/
*GSHIP*
We did get one tentative update from our GSHIP officer that our insurance
premiums will be increasing next year. It's looking like a 15-18% increase,
but we will know more next month. However, as a reminder, for those of us
that serve as GSRs or ASEs our UAW contract ensures that our premiums are
covered by our employment. and thus should not impact most of us directly.
For questions on GSHIP, I would encourage you to reach out to Akshay at
gship.gsa at ucr.edu
Best,
Tommy Kegler
