[Poscgrad] Monica Florian Award

Dear Faculty and TAs,



The Undergraduate Committee has begun soliciting applications for the *Monica
Florian Award*.



The scholarships, supported by the California Homebuilding Foundation, are
awarded to undergraduate students in Political Science “who are in a
building or construction related field or considering one as a career.”
Qualifying career paths could include: construction and development
(architects, designers, builders, developers); real estate (residential,
commercial, or mixed-use development); city planning; city, state or county
housing, community development and land use agencies; as well as certain
careers related to energy development and regulation. To be eligible,
students should also: be continuing at UC Riverside, have an overall GPA of
3.0 or higher, and demonstrate a need for financial assistance.



Students have received an email with instructions on how to apply.  (The
word has also gone out on department social media accounts.)



Applications are due October 20.

*You may be hearing from a member of the Undergraduate Committee about
visiting your class to make an announcement about the Florian award -- and
the upcoming career workshop.*



*And please also remember, as you interact with students or discuss
undergraduates with TAs, to think about ones you could refer to us, or
encourage to apply to awards.  Of course this includes possible candidates
for the essay and “outstanding student” award, but it also includes
students who are good candidates for awards that are needs-based and
targeted to first-generation students.*
