Dear Professor Brookes,

We write to you in your capacity as Director of Graduate Studies to
introduce an initiative to foster a new generation of methodologists in the
Qualitative and Multi-Method Research community, and to ask your help
recruiting participants.

With generous support from the National Science Foundation, we will
organize a small *“Emerging Methodologists Workshop”* at the upcoming
meeting of the American Political Science Association (APSA) in Los Angeles
in August 2023 (as well as in 2024 and 2025). The workshop will run as an
invitation-only short course sponsored by the Qualitative and Multi-Method
Research (QMMR) section of APSA. We are actively seeking to recruit
advanced *graduate students*, *postdocs*, and *junior faculty* from
*under-represented
groups* who are *interested in developing and publishing new methodological
scholarship* in these areas to present their work at the workshop.

Workshop funding will cover, for each presenter, *round-trip airfare*, *two
nights at a conference hotel*, *meals and refreshments* during the
workshop, and the $25 workshop fee. In addition, each presenter will be *paired
with a mentor* who will help them to develop their methodological
scholarship in advance of the workshop, and will continue to work with them
after the workshop *to prepare their research for submission to a
peer-reviewed journal.*

Proposals to present at the workshop are due on *March 6, 2023*.

*Please see the attached document* for more information and instructions
for proposal submission. Broad outreach is a vital part of our efforts to
recruit *a diverse pool of participants*, and we therefore ask you to
circulate the call widely to any individuals or groups who might be
interested. Please email emw.qmer at gmail.com with any questions.

Thank you in advance for your support of this initiative.

Best wishes,
Diana Kapiszewski and Hillel Soifer
