The First-Generation Committee 2022 Annual Meeting Travel and 
Accessibility Reimbursement Grant*is now open for applications. *


We are delighted to offer travel and accessibility grants in the amount 
of $250 each to support First Generation Higher Education Scholars in 
the Profession who participated in the 2022 APSA Annual Meeting in 
Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

*Deadline: October 11, 2022*

*Purpose:*/Travel grants///will be awarded to support the cost of travel 
to the Annual Meeting. Expenses include mileage for attendees who 
traveled by car or plane tickets for attendees who traveled by air. 
Travel grants can also include hotel costs, meals, on-site and 
conference related wifi, and cab/ridesharing costs. /Accessibility 
grants/will be awarded to support indirect costs of participating in the 
virtual portion of the meeting, including costs associated with meals, 
childcare or elderly care, cost of internet access or technology 
upgrades, and auxiliary aids and services for individuals with hearing 
or vision disability. Grants will be made up to $250 USD for 
reimbursement of these costs. Please note that APSA membership or Annual 
Meeting registration fees cannot be covered using travel and 
accessibility grants.

*Background:*In 2015, the APSA Executive Council approved a new standing 
Committee on First Generation Higher Education Scholars in the 
Profession, parallel to the existing status committees on Asian-Pacific 
Americans, Blacks, Latinos y Latinas, LGBT Individuals, Women, Graduate 
Students, and Contingent Faculty in the Profession. The goal is to bring 
focused attention to the ways in which class, economic inequality, and 
mobility can affect political scientists’ ability to thrive 
educationally and professionally, perhaps throughout their careers.

*Eligibility for Travel Reimbursement Grant:*

  * Applicants must identify as a First Generation Scholar in the
    profession and must also have registered for and attended the 2022
    APSA Annual Meeting. The committee adopts a broad, inclusive
    definition of First Generation Scholar (FGS), including:
      o Scholars who have parents who have attained neither a bachelor’s
        nor an associate's degree and/or
      o International scholars who are the first generation to study
        and/or teach at the college or university level in the United
        States.

/Please note: Undergraduate attendees are not eligible for this grant 
opportunity. APSA will verify your meeting attendance (no action required)./
