Dear Physics Community,
JOIN US NOW to attend the following seminar:
Speaker: Maximiliano Silva-Feaver (Yale)
Title: "Precision Cosmology and the Search for Axion Dark Matter"
Date & Time: Wednesday, April 8 | 10:00–11:00 AM
Location: Physics Reading Room
Abstract:
Precision cosmological measurements of observables such as primordial
element abundances, the cosmic microwave background, and large‑scale
structure reveal a universe dominated by dark matter and dark energy, while
simultaneously enabling sensitive tests of physics beyond the Standard
Model. Despite this success, the particle identity of dark matter remains
unknown. In this colloquium, I will trace how the extraordinary precision
of modern cosmology motivates a new generation of laboratory searches for
dark matter, focusing on the axion — a particle originally proposed to
solve the strong CP problem and now recognized as a compelling dark‑matter
candidate. I will describe how recent theoretical progress has identified a
predictive axion mass window, and how emerging experimental techniques
including quantum‑enhanced readout, plasma haloscopes, and
photon‑number‑sensitive detectors are opening previously inaccessible
regions of parameter space.
We hope to see you there!
*Dauda Gbujama*
