Experimental Generation and Characterization of High-Dimensional Quantum Entanglement in Photonic Qubits

We report on the experimental realization and characterization of
high-dimensional quantum entanglement using spatially encoded photonic
qubits. Entangled photon pairs were generated via spontaneous parametric
down-conversion in a nonlinear crystal and encoded into orbital angular
momentum (OAM) modes to access a Hilbert space dimension up to d = 7.
The entangled states were analyzed using a combination of mode sorters
and projective measurements implemented with spatial light modulators.
We quantify entanglement using the generalized concurrence and perform
full quantum state tomography to reconstruct the density matrix of the
system. Our results confirm the presence of strong entanglement beyond
the qubit level and demonstrate the scalability of the platform for
high-dimensional quantum information protocols. These findings pave the
way for more robust and secure quantum communication schemes, leveraging
the increased information capacity inherent in high-dimensional
entangled states.
