*Electrons Blowin’ in the Wind: Characterizing Electron Densities in AGN 
Outflows*

AGN outflows are critical for understanding galaxy evolution, but 
current observational techniques to measure their impact are plagued by 
high uncertainties. The primary culprit of this uncertainty is the 
electron density of the ionized outflow, which can vary by over three 
orders of magnitude. Consequently, current models of galactic evolution 
cannot be trusted, and new observational methods are desperately needed. 
In this talk, I will describe a new technique for estimating the AGN 
electron densities more precisely and then show how that method can be 
used to study different types of galactic outflows. Specifically, I will 
examine this new method by combining new Keck/KCWI integral field 
spectroscopic observations with CLOUDY photoionization modeling in order 
to find an emission line tracer that precisely measures electron 
densities. Finding a better way to constrain the electron densities in 
ionized outflows will have a profound impact not only on research in AGN 
but also on the entire field of galaxy evolution.
