Instructor
To: <all-ucr-astro at googlegroups.com>
Dear UCR Astro Faculty, Postdocs and Graduate students,
It is our pleasure to welcome back Dr. Christina Manzano King—UCR Physics
Ph.D. She’ll be here in person to share her hard‑won insights on how to
translate your graduate training into a thriving, teaching‑focused career.
*Title:"**UCR to Community College: Launching Your Teaching Career**"*
*When*:* Monday, April 28th 2025, at 4:00 PM*
*Where*:* Physics Reading Room*
*Abstract*: Talk story with UCR alum Dr. Christina Manzano about
transitioning from graduate school to a full-time teaching role in the
community college system. Drawing on five years of experience teaching
physics and astronomy, Christina will walk through key steps in the
process—including developing your teaching portfolio, understanding the
hiring timeline, and leveraging UCR’s teaching-focused workshops and
certificate programs. She’ll also share insights on what to expect from the
application and interview stages, and how to prepare for a successful path
to tenure. This session is designed for graduate students interested in
teaching-focused careers and will include practical advice, personal
reflections, and time for Q&A.
We really hope to see you there!
Clear skies,
*The AURORA Team*
