Nanoparticle Assemblies: A New Form of Matter with Classical Structure and Quantum Function

Dr. Alex Travesset

Iowa State University

Abstract: Materials whose fundamental units are nanocrystals (NC)s, instead of atoms or molecules, are emerging as major candidates to solve many of the technological challenges of our century. In this talk, I will introduce different relevant NC systems. I will elaborate on different successes in predicting equilibrium structures and their function. I will present the diverse phase diagram of mixed Perovskite (cubic) and spherical NCs and emphasize their optoelectronic properties, thus demonstrating how a precise control of the structure determines the function. I will conclude with an outlook on the amazing possibilities that these materials provide.

Thursday, April 27th, 2023

3:40 PM in Winston Chung Hall (Room 138)

Coffee will be served at 3:10 PM in the Barkas Lounge (3049 Physics)
