Hi all,

In observance of Memorial Day (Monday, May 30), we changed our PASS seminar
to *Tuesday at 4 pm *for next week.

We are very happy to have Wei-Xiang Feng (UCR) from the high-energy group
to talk about the seeding of supermassive black holes using
self-interacting dark matter.

*Title: Seeding Supermassive Black Holes with Self-Interacting Dark Matter*

Wei-Xiang Feng (University of California, Riverside)

*Abstract*: Observations show that supermassive black holes (SMBHs) with a
mass of ∼10^9 M⊙ exist when the universe is just 6% of its current age.
Recently, we have proposed a scenario where a self-interacting dark matter
halo experiences gravothermal instability and its central region collapses
into a seed black hole. Our results indicate that self-interacting dark
matter can provide a unified explanation for diverse dark matter
distributions in galaxies today and the origin of SMBHs at redshifts z ∼
6–7. If time permits, I will talk about the other related topics of BHs.

We have one more presenter for the Spring Quarter (June 6 Pak Kau Lim). And
three more presenters (Mahdi Qezlou, Reza Monadi, and Elizabeth Finney) are
queued in the Summer Quarter.

To submit abstracts for Summer Quarter: [Abstract Submission
