<span style="color:#009CDE">Student Experience Project</span></a> (SEP), a collaborative of stakeholders in higher education committed to using data-driven methods to improve student outcomes through building equitable and supportive learning environments.<br>

The SEP collaborative is a partner of XCITE, and it is through them that we have Premium access to Ascend. Ascend includes a survey instrument, which is ideally deployed three times in an academic term to provide real-time feedback to instructors about their
 students’ experiences in their courses in order to improve student experiences within courses. The survey assesses seven aspects of the student experience, dubbed “Learning Conditions.” Once surveys are deployed, instructors may view disaggregated data of
 their students’ responses, filtered by demographics to identify equity gaps, and are provided just-in-time intervention suggestions to improve each Learning Condition.<br>

<strong><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Nine faculty participants deployed the Ascend survey to 12 courses in Spring 2024</span></strong>, impacting an
<strong><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">estimated 1294 students</span></strong>. Community Reports that reflect the results of the surveys across all courses, show promising results.<br>

By the end of the Spring ‘24 quarter, the pilot cohort showed an increase in positively rated responses across every learning condition except “Trust & Fairness” (which started at a 94% positive response rate).
<strong><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Across all three surveys, the pilot cohort demonstrated an increase of five percentage points</span></strong> in the “Belonging Certainty” learning condition, which is even more promising when disaggregated

 Consular Affairs, “The student’s most meaningful achievement was crafting a proposal to establish a sister relationship between Tbong Khmum Province and Minnesota. Her work on this initiative demonstrated her ability to bridge international connections and
 showed a deep understanding of the importance of fostering global partnerships.”<br>

For context, essentially all first year UCR students take the writing entrance exam (AWPE) and UCR tends to have a significant percentage of first year students who test into English 4 (the course before English 1A).  In an effort to pilot some additional support
 for a subset of the English 4 student population, we are launching the <strong><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Esperanza Scholar’s Project</span></strong> working with three UWP lecturers with four sections each. Each section has approximately

10 instructors of online courses open to cross-enrolled students participated formally to earn a certificate and stipend to enhance their courses according to UCR wellness frameworks. While formal participants could earn a certificate and stipend, instructors
 and TAs teaching in all modalities were welcomed to participate informally from across the UC and partner institutions.<br>

The Winter 2024 "Alternative and Equitable Grading" series was also partially funded through the initiative to help market and promote the “Art & Science of Healthy Pedagogy” program. The grading series was also partially funded through an NSF grant called
 “Beyond Access: Leveraging Mobile-Friendly Design of Online Course Content to Support STEM Student Success," seeking to help instructors develop mobile forward courses with grading for equity strategies.<br>

There were 28 guest speaker collaborations for the 24W "Alternative and Equitable Grading" series and the 24S "Art & Science of Healthy Pedagogy" program with particular success in building relationships through collaboration with campus partners. For the "Art
