<p class="MsoNormal">I am pleased to announce that the Academic Resource Center has a new Assistant Director for Academic Mentoring Programs. Elena Perez was the successful candidate and began in her new role on November 1<sup>st</sup>.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black;background:white">Elena has served for the UCR community for 25 years. She is a two-time UCR graduate, having received her Bachelor of Arts in Chicano Studies and her Master of Education - Higher Education Administration
and Policy. She has worked in multiple roles across campus which have all allowed her to support students & their success. Most recently she served the Program Coordinator for Academic Intervention and Tutorial Assistance in the ARC.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black;background:white"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black;background:white">As a first-generation, low-income student herself, her passion for student success is driven by the mentorship she received as an undergrad along with the desire to give back and be a resource
for those who come after her. In addition to her ‘paid roles’, she has been involved serving on the UC Riverside Guardian Scholars Program Steering Committee - working with former Foster Youth who are pursuing higher education as well as previously serving
on the UCR Chicano/Latino Alumni Network Board of Directors; and several campus scholarship and hiring committees.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black;background:white"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black;background:white">As the Assistant Director for Academic Mentoring Programs, Elena oversees the coordination of the following programs in the ARC: Academic Intervention Programs, Supplemental Instruction, Tutorial
Assistance Program, and Writing Support Programs. If you have any questions regarding the coordination of these programs, feel free to reach out to her.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
