Dear DUE Colleagues,
You may have received an email on Tuesday asking you to complete a 360 evaluation of the VPDUE, Associate Deans, and DUE structure. Upon consultation with central campus, inclusive of HR and the Provost’s office, this survey is out of policy compliance and is not sanctioned by the DUE, me, the provost’s office or the chancellor’s office. In winter 2028, I will have a five year review, as does every campus leader reporting to the provost and chancellor, in which the entire campus will be invited to participate. I want to take a moment to share my concern about this communication.
I want to clearly communicate to the DUE staff that you are in no way obligated to complete these unsanctioned evaluations. It was suggested within the invitation message that there was consultation with other DUE staff. While this may be true for some individuals, I have also heard from other DUE staff that this effort is not representative of the entire DUE staff.
Equally as important is recognizing that this survey is not part of any authorized evaluation process overseen by the university. Official evaluations are managed by designated campus entities (like the Chancellor's Office, Provost's Office, and HR) to ensure fairness, equity, and data integrity.
I value constructive feedback and engagement which is why the DUE hosts the org-wide retreat, supports subcommittees on topics like wellness and staff professional development, launched the Student Success Speaker series, and began more structured professional development opportunities for staff, among other efforts. The concern is that the evaluations you were asked to complete falls outside established and sanctioned university processes. These processes exist to ensure inclusivity, a comprehensive assessment, often involving external management to ensure impartiality, to mitigate bias, and guarantee data validation. Without the appropriate support, and involvement of authorized campus entities, efforts like this can provide incomplete and siloed results. I believe it's important to follow established procedures that ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation process for everyone.
In addition to sanctioned methods for engagement surveys, our university has a standard and robust leadership review process. I want to assure you that there will be a formal opportunity for your feedback. During this review, the entire campus will be invited to participate through official channels. I want to assure you that there will be a formal opportunity for your feedback through that method and other campus sanctioned solutions.
As we move forward, it's important to remember the significant progress we've made together in the past 18 months. Change is challenging and tests our commitment to pursuing the greater good and staying the course rather than succumb to individual predilections. During our September retreat, we discussed our strategic goals and the positive impact we're having on student success across campus. This remains a core priority for our unit, and I am dedicated to upholding the principles that brought me to this work—equity, data-informed decision making, innovation, and impactful results.
Sincerely,
Louie Rodriguez
