I'm very excited to announce that Nelly Cruz will join the Undergraduate Education leadership team on September 26 as our next University Innovation Alliance (UIA) Fellow! Nelly earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at UCR and expects to complete her PhD in our School of Education next year. She has published research on topics related to student mental health disparities, student experiences with campus racial climates, and culturally responsive leadership in the academy. Nelly also has held several student-oriented positions at UCR, starting as a student assistant in the CNAS Undergraduate Academic Advising Center and working her way up to assistant director of our CHASS First-Year Experience Programs. As our UIA Fellow, Nelly will be responsible for leading UIA-sponsored projects and developing new initiatives to promote educational equity and student success at UCR. Please join me in welcoming Nelly to her new role.

I also want to thank the members of the search committee for their time and service: Associate Dean Rich Cardullo (chair), Sean Cason, Deisy Vaca, Nina Rae Aguila, Amanda Voight, and Chanel Parrish. And I'd also like to thank Mona Nelson for serving as our interim UIA Fellow during the search process.
