[Orgvpdue] UE remote work after December 31

UE Colleagues,

The Provost's message from last week about the "compassionate clause" (attached) is good motivation for us to start planning for our work arrangements after December 31, when our current telecommuting agreements expire. Related to this, the UE leadership team has updated our remote work policy (also attached) with new information about permanent vs. flexible office space assignments. Please familiarize yourself with the updated policy.

All UE supervisors should begin discussions with their direct reports about new telecommuting agreements that will become effective January 1, 2023. Anyone who is not planning to work "full-time on-site" as defined in the policy, or who does not have a job description that designates their position as fully remote, must have a telecommuting agreement. For "hybrid" workers requesting less than 80% time in-person, the implications of using "flex" space should be carefully considered before submitting a telecommuting form.

New telecommuting agreements must be approved by the supervisor, department head, and VPDUE before the winter closure begins on December 23. To meet this deadline, please draft all new agreements and submit to your department head for approval no later than November 23. New agreements may extend through June 30, 2023 at which time this process will transition to a fiscal year cycle.

If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor first and then escalate to your department head if needed.
