Andrea Martinez transferred to UCR from Diablo Valley College as an Education major with a minor in Ethnic Studies in Fall 2020. We asked Andrea a few questions about her experience at UCR. Here are her responses:

What UCR activities have you participated in?
Chicano Student Programs, Puente Connection Program, peer advisor in the School of Education, Student Rec Center, Hermandad de UCR, Latino Student Business Association (LBSA), Central American Student Alliance, Transfer Success Program Transfer Peer Mentor

What words of wisdom would you like to share with your transfer peers?
Stay true to yourself, do self-care days don't burn out, and stay balanced in EVERYTHING YOU DO.

Nina Grace Ruedas
Director, Women's Resource Center

Nina Grace Ruedas transferred from Pasadena City College as a Psychology major to UC San Diego where she received her BS in Psychology. Nina then went on to pursue her Masters in Counseling from San Diego State University. We asked Nina to share about her transfer student experience as well as a few words of encouragement to our UCR transfer community. Here are her responses:

Transfer Student Experience:
I loved being a transfer student! As the Vice President & President of the UCSD All Campus Transfer Association (ACTA), being a transfer student was a core part of my identity.

Words of Wisdom:
Early on, someone told me that transfer students have to make effort to find friends whereas freshman are thrown into situations where they can make friends all the time. Check out student orgs. Visit E&G departments. Start a conversation at the bus stop. It might take a little bit of work, but it's worth it when you find your people. Don't worry, they are on campus! You just have to find them.
