Amina Ayub Swallah transferred to UCR from Santa Monica College as a Psychology major in Fall 2020. Amina is a recent graduate and we asked her a few questions about her experience at UCR. Here are her responses:

What words of wisdom would you like to share with your transfer peers?
Make use of the many resources available on campus; they are there to help you. Always ask for help if you need it and never doubt yourself. You can do it!

Guadalupe Ruiz transferred to UCR from .............. She has since received her Bachalor of Arts in sociology in 2012 and her Master of Science in Higher Education Leadership and Student Development from California Baptist University. We asked Guadalupe to share some words of wisdom to our transfer community and here is what she wanted to say:

Words of Wisdom:
Working on yourself is the greatest, best thing you could do, so get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Reflecting on my transfer experience, and the journey that led me to where I am now, I can say with certainty that it all challenged me, and made me uncomfortable. Yet, these very moments were what propelled me into my next greatest adventure. Learning to lean into fear and reframing it as an opportunity to grow is something I wish I would have known sooner. I recently tried to take an easier path, then I had one of my former students remind me of what I have been pushing them to do, and he said to me, “remember that what you resist is an opportunity to grow,” so I pushed through with the “scarier” route and I am so glad I did. I am also glad that I now get to work with transfer students and have full circle moments with them. I am grateful for this community.

Disability Ally Training Student Leaders
February 15th at 4:00pm

This workshop is specifically for UCR students. The goal of this workshop seeks to facilitate awareness, understanding of disability through connecting students with resources, knowledge and relationships of disability as diversity. Participants in this program will gain knowledge about what it means to truly be an ally for students with disabilities. Topics include: Disability Law, Academic Accommodations, Disability Etiquette, Hidden Disabilities, Disability Demographics Accessibility Student Participants will also receive a Disability Ally badge that can placed in their email signature notifying students that they are a safe space for individuals with disabilities.
