This presentation will explore the ways that 20th century Chilean
folklorists and artists Violeta Parra and Margot Loyola are remembered
today. Together, musicologist Lorena Valdebenito and ethnomusicologist
Hannah Snavely show how the two musicians have been constructed as
idealized figures within the Chilean national imagination, and the role of
gender within such representations.
