Dear Faculty:
As plans for the Nematology transition are taking shape, I want to let you
know that the work to re-scope the BMPN unit and improve the level of
service they will provide continues. With the goal to ensure that all
faculty who are supported by BMPN receive service from an assigned research
analyst, CNAS is adding a Research Admin position to the unit. FAO
Morgando will launch the recruitment for that position without delay so
that this added permanent resource can begin with the unit as soon as
possible. With both analysts-in-training and temporary personnel assigned
to the unit, we believe that a qualified candidate can be readily
identified.
The Nematology administration transition is planned using a three-phase
approach, and the hand-off to Entomology administration is already
underway, with some behind-the-scenes activities already in coordination
between the two administration units. The bulk of the transition will be
complete before curtailment, while the final transfer of facilities
responsibilities and assets will take place after the first of the year and
be completed within January 2026. FAO Morgando will keep the Nematology
faculty apprised of the timeline as it is finalized to ensure support for
Nematology faculty during the transition is as seamless as possible. As I
wrote previously, Nematology faculty will adopt the Entomology methods and
procedures for administrative procedures. They will be assigned dedicated
analysts.
Assistance from the Dean's Office related to the close-out of historical
projects and to ensure the books are as current as possible continues with
solid support from FAO Morgando & FOM Vanta. Much more work needs to be
done on this task to ensure that PI inquiries can be addressed with speed
and precision. We are considering options, within the Dean’s office, to
increase the number of experienced hands on this effort as we acknowledge a
need to speed up the process in order to deliver the best support to
faculty and provide the best working conditions for the BMP unit.
Finally, there are other structural changes being considered for the unit
to help balance workload. More work needs to be done to ensure any changes
proposed can be done in a manner that enables a high standard of service.
We will share details as plans come together. Again,I ask for flexibility
and understanding from faculty and staff as efforts continue. I understand
the urgent need for clear operational improvements as soon as possible.
