        [HEALTH PROFESSIONS EDUCATION FOUNDATION   This is scholarship and loan repayment information for students accepted to medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy and other health professions programs. The Foundation administers a number of scholarship and loan repayment programs for health professional students and graduates. All program recipients are required to provide direct patient care in a medically underserved area (MUA) of California as designated by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD). The period of obligated professional service is one to four years (depending upon program).  You may apply for a scholarship if you are a current health professional student accepted or enrolled into an accredited California school, college or university. Award money will be paid directly to the educational institution. Disbursements may take up to 6-8 weeks.      Awarded funds will be paid directly to the lending institution every three months. Awardees may need to periodically submit payment to lending institution or request deferment of payment until payment has been established. Disbursements may take up to 6-8 weeks.    Criteria varies for each program but may require applicants to submit documentation of their prior academic performance, financial need, work experience, community background, career goals, length of commitment to practice in a medically underserved area, and community involvement.]

Update on Deadlines
The Health Professions Education Foundation has combined loan repayment and scholarship deadlines.  We will now have one annual deadline of September 11, and no longer have a March 24 deadline. The next deadline for the programs below is September 11, 2012.
