It sounds like Stanford tired of paying their legal fees.

Also btw - a string protest from me. It should be “logorithms” not “logarithms”

If you aren't aware of them, the Stanford Internet Observatory team produced some terrific work on online misinformation that bridged the academic, public, and policy spheres. I understand misinformation researchers at the University of Washington were also caught up in this harassing, McCarthy-esque investigation.
