HPCC Summer Maintenance Shutdown UPDATE

When

   - Begins: Friday, August 8, 12am
   - Ends: Monday, August 11, evening
   - Follow-up outage: Early September (tentative)

Description

The previous July 28 maintenance shutdown has been *rescheduled to midnight
on August 8*. This is to combine cluster maintenance with the installation
of a new battery backup system in the SOMED data center.

A previous estimate led us to place a Slurm reservation block for 6pm.
Because the final shutdown time is sooner, you might have scheduled jobs
that extend into the maintenance window. If so, your job will be
interrupted and automaticaly re-queued.

In addition, we have been notified that a second, follow-up outage will be
needed to finish the battery backup installation, and is currently
targeting the first week of September. If so, this second outage is
expected to be much shorter and limited in scope.

HPCC apologizes for the uncertainty and disruptions caused by these sudden
developments. These maintenance events are necessary for the long-term
health of the cluster and related systems. Thanks for your continued
support and understanding.

Services Impacted

Most services hosted by HPCC will be down during this period. This
includes, but is not limited to:

   - Cluster access (SSH, Slurm, data access), including web browser (HTTP)
   access to user data.
   - All services provided by OnDemand: RStudio/Posit, MATLAB, Jupyter, etc.

*Normal email support (support at hpcc.ucr.edu <support at hpcc.ucr.edu>) will be
down early Friday.* Our email support systems should come back online
around noon. HPCC's Slack workspace (https://ucr-hpcc.slack.com) will be
the main means of group communication with users during maintenance events.
We strongly encourage users to become familiar with our Slack workspace
ahead of the shutdown.
