[Lilab] GSR assignments for 2024 Winter

Hi All,

First, please remember to provide your availability for the study group.

Please see below for the GSR assignments for 2024 Winter:

Shiwei: 50% TA
Yudi: 50% GSR
Kiano: 50% TA
Brian: 50% GSR

Note that the only way to apply for a TA position is to fill out the
application form sent from the department. Please submit the form on time
once you receive it. If you have difficulty securing a TA position, please
let me know asap.

Also note that the assignments will likely change every quarter based on a
joint consideration of multiple factors, so not getting GSR in one quarter
does not mean your work in the previous quarter is not appreciated. On
average, students making satisfying research progress will receive GSR
positions more frequently to help protect your research time.

I want to emphasize that the difference in TA/GSR assignments is not linked
to expectations on your research progress. These are just two different
ways of providing PhD students financial support. When it comes to
evaluating your PhD thesis, it's eventually based on whether you have
contributed enough novel research results, not how many hours you have
worked, or how many quarters you serve as GSRs.
