Subject: [HPCC] Maintenance Shutdown Final Reminder
To: <no-reply at hpcc.ucr.edu>
Hello HPCC users,
It has come to our attention that not all active HPCC users received an
email notification regarding the upcoming maintenance shutdown. You may
disregard this message if you received the previous emails, there is no new
information to report. Otherwise, please continue reading.
This is a courtesy reminder that HPCC will be executing a maintenance
shutdown on *Friday, May 5, 2023* at *8:00 AM PDT*. and is expected to last *2
days*. This time was chosen to overlap with a scheduled Genomics Building
electrical shutdown on the morning of *May 6*. UCR Facilities Services
estimates that electrical work will be completed by noon on Saturday,
so *Saturday
afternoon* is the earliest at which the cluster can be brought back online.
You should save all work and log off of any nodes before the shutdown to
avoid any data loss.
If submitting jobs before the shutdown, you may notice an unusual
"ReqNodeNotAvail" error, followed by a list of nodes. This error is
misleading. The shutdown is the actual reason for this error. To get around
this issue, you have the following options:
1. Reduce the --time request for your job such that it will finish
before the shutdown time (about 17 hours as of this email)
2. Let your job wait in the queue. Your job will be automatically
scheduled once the maintenance shutdown is over.
During the shutdown, all of our online services hosted from the Genomics
Building will be unavailable. This includes, but is not limited to, SSH,
RStudio Server, JupyterHub, web file access, and email support. Our primary
method of communication during the shutdown will be our Slack channel:
https://ucr-hpcc.slack.com/
If you have any questions or concerns about this shutdown, feel free to
contact us either at the Slack channel above, or through our usual support
email system:
support at hpcc.ucr.edu
We understand that this shutdown will be disruptive to your research and
teaching, and for that we apologize. However, these maintenance shutdowns
are necessary for the reliability and performance of our cluster services.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Austin Leong
