Leveraging mechanistic insights for CRISPR tool development

        Date: Friday, November 8

     Time: 12pm - 1:00 pm

      Location: Genomics Auditorium 1102

Abstract: We are in the middle of a revolution driven by CRISPR science. Researchers used to cheer for every new CRISPR system that leaves a mark on the genetic material. We now strive for tools that enable genetic operations that are never found in nature. My laboratory strives to develop new editing tools from mechanistic insights. I will tell a few stories on how we derive molecular mechanisms from the CRISPR systems using high-resolution biophysical methods. I will then move on to discuss ways to leverage the mechanistic understanding for genome editing tool development.
