Subject: [IIGB_All] 22nd Annual CEPCEB Symposium
The community is invited to attend CEPCEB’s 22nd Annual Distinguished Noel T. Keen Lecture, Awards Ceremony and Research Highlights, Friday December 13th, from 1pm.
RSVP here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1XuTHZANnLEXrFjqfCeEMCUfutKr_r-aeYVb2vnSHdXQ/edit> today, so we can organize the catering.
This year’s speaker is Dr. Ken Birnbaum<https://pages.nyu.edu/birnbaum/>, Professor of Biology and Acting Director of the Genome and Systems Biology Center at New York University. Dr. Birnbaum artfully combines traditional and modern technologies – single-cell, imaging and computation – to understand processes of root development and regeneration in Arabidopsis and maize. As postdoc with Philip Benfey, Ken developed the use of fluorescent activated cell sorting to define mRNA transcripts in specific types of root cells. This propelled the discovery in developmental, gene regulation and metabolomics of specific cell types. Ken co-leads a NSF Research Coordination Network, the Plant Cell Atlas Community<https://www.plantcellatlas.org/> that facilitates community innovation to adoption of single cell and spatial ‘omic methods.
The December 13th event will also spotlight some of the creative research and outreach activities of our community, including collaborative research and activities of the Plants3D NRT training program. The speakers will include postdocs and PhD students.
Awards to an undergraduate, graduate student and postdoc will be made based on nominations from CEPCEB PIs.
The program will with refreshments (1pm) and will end with a delightful reception (~5-6:30pm).
Please pass this on to colleagues and trainees.
Best,
Julia Bailey-Serres,
Center for Plant Cell Biology
