Biography
Daniel Rodriguez-Leal is a Trait Development Lead in Vegetables and Flowers at Syngenta, Durham, NC. Daniel received his MSc. and Ph.D. in Plant Biotechnology in 2015 from LANBEBIO-CINVESTAV, Irapuato, Mexico. He then joined the lab of Professor Zachary Lippman from 2015 to 2018 as a PEW Latin American Fellow Postdoctoral Researcher at the Cold Spring Harbor Lab in Long Island, NY where he worked on the developmental genetics of plant stem cells and using CRISPR to optimize yield-related traits in tomato. His most significant scientific contributions include but are not limited to 1) Using Genome Editing to engineer quantitative trait variation for traits underlying yield in tomato 2) Use of Genome Editing for rapid domestication or improvement of orphan crops, and 3) Uncovering a deeply conserved mechanism of genetic buffering that control plant architecture in tomato, corn, and Arabidopsis. Daniel published his research findings in well-reputed journals like Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Plants, The Plant Cell, etc. with over 1000 citations.
