Postdoctoral Positions available to study Trichomonas vaginalis at UCLA
The laboratory of Patricia Johnson at University of California Los Angeles
(https://www.mimg.ucla.edu/people/patricia-johnson-ph-d/, https://researchfeatures.com/wpcontent/
uploads/2018/05/Patricia-Johnson.pdf) is hiring postdoctoral fellows to study pathogenic mechanisms
that allow the sexually-transmitted parasite Trichomonas vaginalis to establish and maintain an infection.
Positions are available for two projects. The goal of the first is to determine how parasite-secreted, extracellular
vesicles (EVs) interact with the host and modulate infection (https://www.pnas.org/content/116/43/21354.short,
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32822680/, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23853596/).
The second project aims to identify both parasite and host cells factors critical for neutrophil killing of parasites
using trogocytosis (https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.2003885,
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30056833/) and to determine why some T. vaginalis clinical isolates are killed
by trogocytosis while others are resistant to killing.
Qualifications: Both projects require an ability to design and execute experiments, interpret data, and co-author
peer-reviewed research papers. Candidates should have experience with basic molecular & cellular biological
techniques, as well as cell culture, microscopy, and biochemical analyses. A Ph.D. or D.Sc. degree is required
at the time of hire. Preference will be given to early-stage postdoctoral applicants with demonstrated interests
in parasitology or host:pathogen interactions.
To apply please send a CV and the names and contact information of 3 referees to: johnsonp at ucla.edu
