Dear colleagues and friends of the IAMSG-AMS,

We are writing to share some updates about IAMSG-AMS activities and, more
broadly, the presence of Ibero-American music and music scholarship at the
upcoming AMS Annual Meeting.

This year, Ibero-American topics will have a particularly strong presence
at the conference. In addition to our traditional IAMSG Business Meeting,
scheduled for Friday, November 20, we will have a special in-person session
organized in collaboration with the Butler School of Music at the
University of Texas at Austin, which will also be livestreamed. This is one
of the in-person special events proposed and accepted for inclusion in the
2026 AMS Annual Meeting and selected for support by AMS. The session will
take place on Saturday, November 14, and will feature Benjamin Barson,
winner of the 2025 Robert M. Stevenson Award.

In addition, we will have a series of six thematic panels and performance
sessions organized through ARLAC-IMS, the Regional Association for Latin
America and the Caribbean of the International Musicological Society. These
sessions are the result of a long-developed agreement between the American
Musicological Society and the International Musicological Society, an
initiative in which several members of IAMSG-AMS have been actively
involved. We believe this new thematic format offers a wonderful
opportunity to increase the visibility of Ibero-American music and
scholarship within the broader conference program, while also encouraging
dialogue among researchers working in different contexts and academic
traditions.

Below is the list of these special sessions, with titles, times (all in
Eastern Time), and links to the online program for the details. The program
is still provisional, although significant changes to the times of these
sessions seem unlikely, particularly as they involve scholars joining from
several different countries.

Beyond this special programming, the conference will also include a number
of other panels and individual papers related to Ibero-American music, so
our field will have an especially visible presence at this year’s meeting.

We warmly encourage all of you to join these sessions whenever you can, and
especially the two events organized directly through the IAMSG. It would be
wonderful to see a strong turnout from our community and to take advantage
of these opportunities to connect with one another.

We hope to see many of you there!
